Repression in Burma: A Public Reading with Khet Mar

“Khet Mar is a journalist, novelist, short story writer, poet, and essayist from Burma. Author of one novel, Wild Snowy Night, as well as several collections of short stories, essays and poems, her work has been translated into English and Japanese, been broadcast on radio, and made into a film. She has been exiled writer-in-residence in City of Asylum/Pittsburgh since March 2009. Khet Mar will discuss the current human rights situation in Burma as well as the repression against journalists after Cyclone Nargis devastated the country in 2008. She will then give a short reading of some of her work in English and in Burmese. A short film will also be shown concerning human rights in Burma and there will be a letter writing action as well.

Light refreshments will also be provided.
