Greetings Thomas Merton Center Family, The Thomas Merton Center is proud to present the 2019 New Person of the Year Award to Wasi Mohamed – an activist working to expand civil rights and bridge gaps between communities. You are warmly invited to attend the ceremony on Tuesday, June 25, from 6:00 PM – 9:00 PM. Please consider purchasing tickets to the event, becoming an event sponsor, or purchasing program book ads. As always, we will accept donations towards scholarships to provide free tickets to guests positively impacted by Wasi’s work. Friday, June 7 is the deadline for submitting ads and sponsorship information to be included in the program book.

Wasi serves as the Pittsburgh Director of Community Entrepreneurship for Forward Cities. Forward Cities is a national capacity-building and learning network working within and between large and small cities to create more inclusive entrepreneurial ecosystem development. Wasi dedicates himself to the health of Pittsburgh and its many communities. He builds leadership in the people around him and brings a compassionate spirit of understanding to every space he is in. Wasi is honored to receive the New Person Award the year after his fellow organizer, Monica Ruiz, received the 2018 New Person award.
