Every year the Thomas Merton Center honors two activists or organizations for their work towards peace and social justice. The Thomas Merton Award honors a nationally or internationally known activist for their accomplishments while the New Person of the Year honors a local activist for their work here in Pittsburgh and Western Pennsylvania. We invite our members and supporters to send us their recommendations for the 2019 awards. Last year we were thrilled to honor Monica Ruiz-Caraballo of Casa San Jose with the New Person of the Year award and St Louis’ ArchCity Defenders with the Thomas Merton Award.
