Today in Pittsburgh: July 12, 2010

Work has begun on another project to improve the Hill District: the beginnings of a new YMCA that will rival those around the city. The Y will be a $12 million endevour on Centre Avenue in a vacant block. Developers and city officials are hoping that investments such as these will benefit the community and allow it to flourish. The area is in dire need of a new recreational outlet, as the current building is ninety years old and in poor condition.

The formal groundbreaking will be on August 9th and it is expected to take fifteen months to complete.
